CD Details
Craobh Nan Ubhal presents traditional Gaelic songs from the Western Isles, performed by Flora MacNeil, a legendary figure in the post-World War II revival of Gaelic music. A native of the Island of Barra, MacNeil brings her distinctive personal style to these ancient Hebridean songs, drawing from her deep connection to the region’s musical heritage. Accompanied by Alison Kinnaird on harp, she interprets a rich collection of traditional material that spans themes of love, longing, and island life.
Originally released on Tangent Records in 1976 and reissued on Temple Records in 1978, this CD version includes three additional tracks recorded in 1993. The album features eighteen songs in Gaelic with English translations, showcasing MacNeil’s expressive vocal approach to repertoire that had been passed down through generations.
