François Couperin’s keyboard works come to life in this 2003 recording from Hyperion, the second volume in Angela Hewitt’s survey of the French Baroque master’s compositions. Hewitt performs selections from Book IV of Couperin’s Ordres, a collection of stylized character pieces that showcase the composer’s gift for elegant melody and refined ornamentation. Pieces like La Visionaire, La Misterieuse, La Muse Victorieuse, and Les Ombres Errantes reveal Couperin’s imaginative approach to keyboard writing.

This CD contains Couperin’s keyboard music as performed on period instruments, released on the Hyperion label. The program draws from the Twenty-Fifth and Twenty-First Ordres, offering a window into the sophisticated musical world of the French court. Add this volume to your collection of early keyboard music at a used price.
