Sugar’s 1992 debut album Copper Blue marked a fresh start for Bob Mould following his time with Husker Du and two introspective solo records. Joined by drummer Malcolm Travis and bassist David Barbe, Mould crafted ten songs that blend dense, melodic noise with sharp, hypnotic musicality. The album balances coarse textures with beautiful arrangements, featuring Mould’s satirical and often cryptic lyrics set against evocative melodies and fierce instrumentation. Tracks like “Hoover Dam,” “Slick,” and “Man On The Moon” showcase the band’s dynamic range, while darker moments emerge on songs such as “Changes” and “The Slim,” demonstrating Mould’s continued evolution as a songwriter.

This CD was released on Rykodisc and contains all ten tracks, including the single “If I Can’t Change Your Mind” alongside standout cuts like “The Act We Act,” “A Good Idea,” and “Helpless.” The album runs approximately 43 minutes of guitar-driven alternative rock. Grab this used copy and experience the record that earned widespread critical acclaim upon its original release.
