Coma is a 1978 medical thriller directed by Michael Crichton from a screenplay he co-wrote with Robin Cook, based on Cook’s novel. Genevieve Bujold stars as Dr. Susan Wheeler, a physician who becomes alarmed when her best friend falls into an irreversible coma following routine surgery. As Wheeler investigates, she uncovers a disturbing pattern of healthy patients slipping into unexplained comas during what should be minor procedures at her hospital. Her search for answers leads her to a dark conspiracy lurking within the institution’s walls. Michael Douglas, Richard Widmark, Lois Chiles, Hari Rhodes, and Elizabeth Ashley round out the cast.
