CD Details
Celtic Ragas is a 1998 folk-world fusion album by sarod player Chinmaya Dunster and guitarist Vidroha Jamie, released on New Earth Records. The project explores common ground between Irish and Indian classical music traditions, bringing together musicians playing violin, percussion, flute, bass, and tanpura to craft instrumental soundscapes that blend both cultures. Tracks range from the playful energy of “A Gypsy Tale” to the atmospheric beauty of “The Mists of Ruantallain,” with standout moments like “Tara,” where the sarod’s microtonal character intertwines with courtly dance rhythms.
This CD contains nine tracks of Indo-Celtic instrumental music, presented on a single disc. The arrangements maintain focus and momentum throughout, whether exploring meditative passages like “Mere Hamsafar” or more rhythmically active pieces. You’re getting a hand-inspected copy of this rare world music collaboration at a fraction of what a new copy would cost.
