Carmen McRae’s Finest Hour is a 2000 jazz vocal compilation from the Verve label that gathers nineteen of the singer’s most inspired performances. McRae brings her sophisticated interpretive style to a collection of standards, including “I Was Doing All Right,” “How Long Has This Been Going On?,” “Namely You,” “Whatever Lola Wants,” and “The Eagle and Me.” Several tracks feature accompaniment from jazz luminaries Billy Strayhorn and Ben Webster, adding depth to her already compelling vocal presence.

This CD release showcases McRae’s range across jazz and pop standards, with selections like “Dream of Life,” “Weak for the Man,” “Midnight Sun,” and “Mad About the Boy” rounding out the program. A used copy of this compilation lets you experience McRae’s artistry at a fraction of retail cost.
