Captain Corelli’s Mandolin is a 2001 war romance directed by John Madden and based on Louis de Bernières’ novel. Nicolas Cage plays an Italian military officer stationed on the Greek island of Cephallonia during World War II, while Penelope Cruz portrays Pelagia, the daughter of the island’s doctor played by John Hurt. Engaged to a local fisherman (Christian Bale), Pelagia initially resists the charming captain’s advances, but the two eventually surrender to their feelings. Their passionate affair faces a devastating test when the war reaches the island’s shores, forcing both to make difficult choices between love and duty.

This single-disc DVD release runs 131 minutes and carries an R rating from Universal Pictures.
