Cellist Anner Bylsma and pianist Lambert Orkis perform Brahms’s two cello sonatas from 1865 and 1886, along with Schumann’s Five Pieces in Folk Style for cello and piano. Recorded in 1995, these performances use period instruments including an unaltered Stradivarius cello and an 1892 Steinway piano, which help achieve careful balance between the two instruments in works where the piano can easily dominate.

This CD contains Brahms’s Sonata in E Minor, Op. 38, the Schumann pieces, and Brahms’s Sonata in F Major, Op. 99. A used copy of this classical recording offers you the chance to explore these chamber works from a historically informed perspective at a fraction of retail cost.
