Gilles Binchois was a towering figure of 15th-century Franco-Flemish music, and this 1998 recording from Virgin Veritas showcases his elegant chansons performed by the Ensemble Gilles Binchois under the direction of Dominique Vellard, alongside vocalists Akira Tachikawa and Anne-Marie Lablaude. The program centers on Mon souverain desir, presenting polyphonic French songs that exemplify the refined courtly style of the Renaissance, with works like Triste Plaisir, Amours Mercy, and Se La Belle demonstrating Binchois’s gift for lyrical melody and sophisticated harmony.

This CD contains ten tracks spanning roughly 40 minutes of period vocal music performed on Virgin Veritas. Acquiring this used copy lets you explore Renaissance choral repertoire at a fraction of retail cost.
