Vincenzo Bellini’s Norma is a two-act Romantic opera centered on a Druid priestess caught between duty and desire. This 1960 recording features soprano Maria Callas in the title role, partnered with mezzo-soprano Christa Ludwig and tenor Franco Corelli. Conductor Tullio Serafin, who first introduced Callas to the role in 1948, leads the orchestra at La Scala, the opera house where Bellini’s masterwork premiered in 1831. By this second studio recording, Callas brought refined interpretation to her signature role, supported by Ludwig’s warm voice and Corelli’s powerful tenor.

Warner Classics issued this remastered CD in 2014, presenting the complete two-act opera on a single disc. You can own this celebrated performance of a bel canto masterpiece at a fraction of the original cost.
