Barnum is a 1980 Broadway musical about the legendary American showman Phineas T. Barnum, with music by Cy Coleman. Starring Jim Dale in the title role and featuring Glenn Close, the show brought innovative circus-ring staging and spirited songs to Broadway during a quieter period for the theater. The score balances romantic moments like “The Colors of My Life” with playful numbers such as “Museum Song” and crowd-pleasing tunes including “Come Follow the Band” and “Join the Circus.”

This is the original Broadway cast recording on CD, released by Sony Classical and featuring the complete show score along with bonus material. Included are previously unreleased demos by Cy Coleman and Michael Stewart for “Come Follow the Band” and “Join the Circus,” plus Coleman’s demos for songs cut before the show opened, “At Least I Tried” and “So Little Time.” The package also contains new liner notes by Jim Dale and recollections from Coleman.
