August Rush is a 2007 drama directed by Kirsten Sheridan about an eleven-year-old orphan named Evan who possesses an extraordinary gift for music. Convinced that his estranged parents-a classical cellist named Lyla Novacek and Irish singer-songwriter Louis Connelly-are searching for him, Evan runs away from the orphanage determined to reunite with them through the power of music. Along his journey, he encounters a street musician known as Wizard and a local priest who recognize his prodigious talent and help him pursue a musical education. Starring Freddie Highmore, Keri Russell, and Jonathan Rhys Meyers, the film explores whether music truly possesses the ability to bridge the distance between a child and the parents he has never known.
