Attack is a 1956 war drama directed by Robert Aldrich that follows Lieutenant Joe Costa as he grapples with command decisions during the Battle of the Bulge in World War II. When Costa discovers that his soldiers died because Captain Cooney lacked the courage to engage in combat, he confronts the captain and faces an impossible choice: continue sending men into danger under incompetent leadership or take drastic action himself. Jack Palance stars as Costa alongside Eddie Albert as the cowardly captain, with Buddy Ebsen, James Goodwin, Jon Shepodd, and Jud Taylor rounding out the cast. The screenplay by James Poe and Norman Brooks examines the moral complexities of military command and the tension between duty and survival.
