Ars Magis Subtiliter

CD Details

Ars Magis Subtiliter is a 1989 classical recording of secular medieval music from the late 14th century, performed by Ensemble P.A.N. The album draws from the Chantilly Codex, a significant manuscript collection of songs and instrumental works from an era marked by the Black Death, the Hundred Years War, and the papal schism. Six musicians present fifteen selections that range from haunting ballades to passionate love songs and mournful laments, bringing technical skill and early music expertise to pieces by composers including Baude Cordier and others from the codex.

This CD was released on New Albion Records and features tracks such as “Puisque Je Suis Fumeux,” “Pictagoras, Jahol Et Orpheus,” “Medee Fu En Amer Veritable,” and “Fumeux Fume Par Fumee,” among others. The ensemble emphasizes melody, rhythm, and poetic text to create a vital and immediate interpretation of these ancient works.
