Alvarez Kelly is a 1966 Western directed by Edward Dmytryk and written by Daniel Taradash, Elliott Arnold, and Franklin Coen. William Holden stars as a Mexican cattleman who finds himself caught between the Union and Confederate forces during the American Civil War. When circumstances force him to switch his allegiances from supplying cattle to the North, a battle of wits ensues with Richard Widmark, while Janice Rule, Patrick O’Neal, and Victoria Shaw round out the cast. The film follows Alvarez as he navigates the dangerous politics of a cattle drive from Mexico amid the chaos of war.

This single-disc DVD release from Columbia Pictures runs 96 minutes and carries a US Approved rating. Though the plot may be convoluted and some action sequences fall short, the film relies on the charm and reliability of its two leads to carry the story. Pick up this used copy and experience a lesser-known Western that showcases solid performances from two Hollywood veterans.
