Beast of Berlin is a 1939 wartime drama directed by Sam Newfield and starring Alan Ladd in his first credited screen role. The film follows Karl Bach, a German intellectual who joins a resistance movement distributing anti-Nazi propaganda in Berlin. Alongside his fellow idealists, Karl works to turn public opinion against Hitler’s regime, but when the Gestapo discovers their operation, the group faces arrest, torture, and imprisonment in a concentration camp. Karl must then orchestrate a desperate escape to survive.
