Acadie

CD Details

Daniel Lanois released Acadie in 1989 as his self-produced debut album, drawing on his Québécois heritage and his adopted home in New Orleans. The record blends electronic and rock textures with ambient production, exploring the francophone cultures that shaped both regions. Lanois weaves together English and French lyrics across a collection of rural narratives and intimate character studies, moving between soulful vocals and folk-influenced delivery. The album traces connections between old Acadian traditions and their Cajun descendants, creating songs that feel rooted in a distant past. Aaron Neville contributes a ghostly harmony vocal on “The Maker,” adding to the record’s haunting atmosphere.

This CD was released on Warner Bros. and contains ten tracks, including “Still Water,” “The Maker,” “O Marie,” “Jolie Louise,” “Fisherman’s Daughter,” “White Mustang II,” “Under A Stormy Sky,” “Where The Hawkwind Kills,” “Silium’s Hill,” and “Ice,” with a total runtime of approximately 33 minutes.
