A Stan Kenton Christmas brings together The Capitol Bones and The Capitol Bones Big Band to reimagine holiday favorites through the lens of orchestral jazz. This recording features both classic arrangements from Kenton’s 1961 album A Merry Christmas and new interpretations by Mark Taylor, Matt Niess, Jim Roberts, and Tony Nalker. Traditional songs like Angels We Have Heard On High, We Three Kings, Adeste Fidelis, and Good King Wenceslas receive sophisticated big band treatment, with the all-brass ensemble delivering crisp, swinging performances marked by intricate counterpoint and polished musicianship.

Released on CD by Capitol Records, this album runs approximately 40 minutes and features the Washington DC-based Capitol Bones trombone ensemble augmented by regional trumpet and mellophone players under the direction of Kenton veteran Mark Taylor, alongside the Ars Nova Singers. Tracks include Christmas Time Is Here, Greensleeves, The Holly and the Ivy, and My Favorite Things. Pick up this used copy and add a sophisticated jazz spin to your holiday collection.
