Directed by Yolanda Cruz, this 2009 documentary follows Alejandro Santiago, a middle-aged artist and family man from Oaxaca, Mexico, who returns home after time spent abroad. Upon arrival in his native village, he discovers that thousands of residents have left in search of economic opportunity elsewhere, leaving behind a community transformed by mass migration. Moved by this reality, Santiago conceives an ambitious art installation: 2,501 life-size sculptures, each representing an individual migrant from his village. The film explores how global migration reshapes indigenous communities and the cultural impact of economic displacement on those who remain.

Released on DVD by Petate Productions, this single-disc documentary runs 57 minutes and carries an IMDb rating of 8.1. The release includes additional interviews that provide deeper context to Santiago’s artistic vision and the stories of his community. Owning this used copy lets you experience a thoughtful examination of migration and art at a fraction of retail cost.
