Steven Spielberg directed this 1979 satirical war comedy set in Los Angeles during the frantic days following the Pearl Harbor attack. When fear of a Japanese invasion sweeps through California, a military officer finds himself leading an increasingly chaotic mob in pursuit of a Japanese submarine. The ensemble cast includes John Belushi, Dan Aykroyd, Christopher Lee, Ned Beatty, Lorraine Gary, and Murray Hamilton as screwball characters caught up in the pandemonium, from manic servicemen to zealous store owners to bickering Nazis.
