The Story of the Weeping Camel is a 2003 documentary-drama directed by Byambasuren Davaa and Luigi Falorni that blends real-life storytelling with fictional elements. Set in Mongolia’s Gobi Desert, the film follows a four-generation nomadic family of shepherds during birthing season for their camel herd. After a difficult labor, the family delivers a rare white colt, but the mother camel refuses to nurse her newborn. Desperate to save the calf’s life, the family decides to employ an ancient ritual called the “hoos,” sending their two eldest sons to a nearby village to find a traveling musician who can perform the healing ceremony.
