The Screen Behind the Mirror is an electronic and rock album by Enigma, featuring collaborators Andru Donalds and David Fairstein. Michael Cretu, the creative force behind Enigma, blends New Age sensibilities with classical motifs, world music textures, and dance rhythms. The album centers around Carl Orff’s “O Fortuna” from Carmina Burana, which frames the entire work and weaves through multiple tracks. Cretu layers diverse sonic elements-church bells, Middle Eastern vocals, indigenous instrumentation, and synthesized melodies-over hip-hop-influenced beats to create an immersive soundscape that merges ambient, prog-rock, and pop influences.

Released on Virgin Records, this CD contains five tracks: Crucify (Remix), Winter, Angie, Smells Like Teen Spirit, and Thank You. The album showcases Cretu’s continued exploration of how disparate musical traditions can coexist within a unified artistic vision. Grab this used copy and experience Enigma’s ambitious sonic architecture firsthand.
