Altan’s 1997 compilation brings together the Irish folk ensemble’s most celebrated recordings from their Green Linnet years. Featuring Frankie Kennedy on flute, Mairead Ni Mhaoinaigh on fiddle and vocals, Ciaran Tourish and Paul O’Shaughnessy on fiddles, and Ciaran Curran on various instruments alongside Mark Kelly and Daithi Sproule, the band performs traditional jigs, reels, and airs with deep respect for their heritage. The collection spans from Kennedy’s slow reel “The Sunset” through an array of instrumental pieces that showcase the group’s mastery of Celtic music.

This is a two-disc CD set on the Green Linnet label, with the first disc containing studio recordings and a bonus second disc featuring a live soundboard recording from a 1989 concert in Germany. The tracks include traditional pieces such as Tommy Peoples, The Windmill, Fintan McManus’s, Moll Dubh A’ Ghleanna, and Jimmy Lyon’s alongside The Teelin, The Red Crow, and The Broken Bridge. Add this collection to your shelf at a used price that makes it easy to explore Altan’s artistry.
