Django Latino

CD Details

Django Latino is a 2004 album by Joe Craven, a versatile multi-instrumentalist known for his work with the David Grisman Quintet. Craven reimagines fourteen compositions associated with Django Reinhardt, the legendary Manouche guitarist and bandleader, by filtering them through diverse Latin musical traditions. Rather than approaching these classic tunes with reverence or self-indulgence, Craven draws on Cuban charanga, Brazilian bossa nova and choro, Haitian ibo, Colombian cumbia, Argentinean tango, and other grooves to create fresh interpretations that honor the originals while standing on their own.

This single CD features Craven performing multiple instruments alongside a backup ensemble, with tracks including “Minor Swing,” “Nuages,” “Melodie Au Crepuscule / Manoir De Mes Reves,” “Douce Ambiance,” “Babik / Festival 48 / Micro,” “Montagne Ste. Genevieve,” and “Swing 39.” Each arrangement functions as its own distinct piece within a cohesive musical journey across Latin and jazz traditions.
