Michael Cimino directed this 1987 crime drama based on the true story of Salvatore Giuliano, a Sicilian bandit who emerges as a powerful force in post-World War II Sicily. Written by Gore Vidal, Mario Puzo, and Steve Shagan, the film stars Christopher Lambert as Giuliano, alongside Andreas Katsulas, Barbara Sukowa, and Barry Miller. Determined to free Sicily from Rome’s control, Giuliano positions himself as a fourth power against the Church, the landowners, and the Mafia, robbing the wealthy and redistributing their riches to peasants while eliminating anyone who opposes him. His ambitions trigger a brutal manhunt led by the island’s organized crime leadership.
