Barbra Streisand directs and stars in this 1991 drama adapted from Pat Conroy’s novel. Nick Nolte plays a former football coach from the South who travels to New York to support his sister, who is under psychiatric care. As he works with Streisand’s psychiatrist character to understand his sister’s struggles, he begins to confront the painful events of his family’s past. Through their sessions, he develops romantic feelings for the doctor while also discovering a new connection to the city itself. Blythe Danner and Kate Nelligan round out the cast in this exploration of trauma, healing, and unexpected love.
