The Essential Gretchen Peters is a two-disc retrospective spanning two decades of work by this folk and country singer-songwriter. Disc One gathers standout tracks from her past releases alongside fresh recordings, including “On A Bus To St. Cloud” and a duet version of “When You Love Someone” with co-writer Bryan Adams. Disc Two explores her creative journey since 1996 with rare and previously unreleased material, featuring early work tapes, live recordings, and alternate versions that showcase her songwriting evolution and collaborations with musicians including her husband and pianist Barry Walsh.
Released in 2016, this two-CD set includes liner notes by rock critic Dave Marsh. Highlights across both discs span from the unreleased work tape of “Blackbirds” as a duet with co-writer Ben Glover to live full-band performances and rarities that illuminate Peters’ recording history. Owning this used copy lets you experience a comprehensive collection of her work at a fraction of the original retail cost.
