Disney’s 1997 live-action comedy adaptation of the classic cartoon character stars Leslie Nielsen as the severely nearsighted Mr. Magoo, a wealthy businessman who stumbles into the middle of a museum heist while navigating the city. Directed by Stanley Tong and Jingle Ma, the film follows Magoo as he becomes entangled with international jewel thieves searching for a stolen ruby called the Star of Kuristan. Despite his complete lack of awareness, Magoo repeatedly foils the criminals’ plans through sheer accident, aided by a jewel thief played by Kelly Lynch who wants to recover her stolen gem. The ensemble cast includes Ernie Hudson and Jennifer Garner in this slapstick-heavy family adventure.
