Martin Scorsese directed this 2002 crime drama set in 1860s New York, starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Cameron Diaz, and Daniel Day-Lewis. Irish immigrant Amsterdam Vallon emerges from prison with a singular purpose: to infiltrate a powerful gang and exact revenge against the man responsible for his father’s death. As waves of newcomers flood into the city, the Five Points section descends into violence and corruption, and Amsterdam’s personal quest for vengeance becomes entangled with the larger struggle of Irish immigrants fighting for survival and a foothold in their adopted home.
