Comp. 60’s Big Band Recordings collects J.J. Johnson’s complete work as a bandleader during the 1960s. Released in 2007, this two-disc set brings together thirteen studio sessions originally issued across four separate albums between 1964 and 1965, featuring collaborations with notable musicians including Art Farmer, Thad Jones, Clark Terry, Oliver Nelson, Hank Jones, and Kenny Burrell. The compilation showcases Johnson’s arrangements and compositions across a range of jazz styles and moods.
This two-CD release on the Lonehill label contains all 42 tracks from the original sessions in their entirety. A used copy from us gives you access to this comprehensive survey of Johnson’s big band work at a fraction of the cost of finding the original pressings separately.
