Episode 1
Meteorologist Dr. Josh Wurman guides his team of storm chasers into the world’s tornado epicenter to gather new and unique data about nature’s most mystifying storms. His goal is to advance tornado science by sending his scientific instruments into the heart of a twister. If his team can successfully penetrate the core of a tornado, the information they gather may help improve forecasting, prevent millions of dollars in damage, and save lives. In this episode, we investigate the science that drives Josh’s 3 main data-collecting vehicles: The DOW, a truck toting a portable Doppler radar that gathers wind speed data from the vicinity of a tornado. The probes – scientific instruments that team members drop into the path of a tornado, and the TIV – a one-of-a-kind tornado intercept vehicle that filmmaker Sean Casey intends to drive into the center of a twister. If Josh can get his scientific instruments into the heart of a tornado, he’ll gather scientific data unlike any ever recorded.
Episode 2
Meteorologist Dr. Josh Wurman and his team are chasing storms on a mission to acquire rare scientific information about tornados. Sometimes this means scientifically analyzing the horrific damage tornados leave in their wake. Josh and his team visit Tulia, Texas, where a moderate-strength tornado left considerable damage, and Greensburg, Kansas, where the biggest tornado to strike in 8 years leveled a town in a matter of minutes. Josh finds scientific clues hidden among the wreckage that, combined with the unique data he gathers while chasing, may help him solve the mystery behind tornado formation, and prevent death and destruction in the future.
