Grammar Jammar is a theatrical film which conveys the core grammar rules in a fun and positive manner. The length of the film is approximately 40 minutes long and includes 13 songs, each of which contain a learning element. The film begins with the teacher, Miss Wow, having a bad morning. She is running late and the attitude of her class leaves much to be desired. Miss Wow begins to day dream and falls into the world of Grammar Jammar where learning is enjoyable and exciting instead of a laborious chore. Each song is followed by a short class room segment that emphasizes or clarifies the teaching point within the song. Appropriate for Pre K thru 5th grade. Grammar Jammar: Ready, ready, ready or not it s Grammar Jammar time! This song introduces the dream world of Grammar Jammar. The class is transformed into eager children who are ready to learn. Vowels: The class is transported to the playground where the dictionary covers the vowels as well as the long and short sounds for each. Consonants: The dictionary explains that if it is not a Vowel then it must be a Consonant. Sneaky E: The clock sings about a particular vowel Sneaky E that likes to add itself onto the end of a word and change things. In this song Sneaky E finds different ways to end up at the end of several words to show how the vowel sound can change from short to long. 8 Parts of Speech: This cabaret song describes the eight parts of speech that are needed for proper grammar: nouns, pronouns, adverbs, adjectives, verbs, conjunction, preposition, and interjection. Nouns The fish, who is the teacher s pet, transports the class to the fishbowl to teach them about nouns. The main refrain is that a noun is a person, place, thing or idea. Examples of common nouns, proper nouns, plural nouns, singular nouns, possessive nouns, and pronouns are given during the song. Verb is the Word: The ruler sings and dances to a rap song about verbs. It describes the different types of verbs and gives examples of each; action, linking, and helping verbs. The helping verbs are listed out for easy memorization. To Be or Not To Be: As the most used verb in the english language, the flag conjugates to be in this short catchy tune. Adjectives Taking on Adverbs: The adjectives and adverbs take it to the basketball court as they battle it out for supremacy. Adjectives are used to describe a noun. Adverbs, however, can describe a verb, an adjective, or another adverb. Subject Predicate: This song takes place in a 50 s sock hop and explains that there are two parts to every sentence: the subject and the predicate. 4 Kinds of Sentences: The crayon croons about the 4 types of sentences. Declarative, interrogative, imperative, and exclamatory are listed out as well as individually described in this colorful song. Compounds: In this rock song, Miss Wow shows how compound sentences, subjects, predicates, and words are formed. Contractions (Aint Isn t Aint): The flag sings this country song that describes how contractions are formed. Although aint has been excepted by some dictionaries. This song emphasizes that Aint isn t Aint it can t be a contraction because it does not have any action.

Grammar is one of those subjects that is essential but not always fun to teach or to learn for that matter. Grammar Jammar makes learning fun, and the kids don t really even realize that s what they are doing! It is a mix of all the grammar basics plus singing and dancing, exactly what kids love! I used it in my third grade classroom for the past three years during grammar time as a way to introduce and reinforce the parts of speech as well as just playing in my room during writing! My students loved it, and they always asked me if we could listen to it during the day. They learned the words so quickly, and they even would randomly sing the songs when we were not even listening to the music.
