Product Description

Flowing from beginning to end like the magic of a Gordon Bok concert, this album leads off with a lively “Sail O Believer” and finishes with the last quiet words of Steve Sellors’ “Against The Moon.” As the title suggests, islands are a deep well from which Gordon has drawn sustenance all his life. While this is mostly a solo album, he has included a few friends here to give voice to his choral arrangements, provide some rowdiness and to sing for the angels that must hover at every cradlesong. Traditional songs, songs from his favorite writers and a few poems set to music by himself make this album one of Gordon’s best.

About the Artist

Gordon Bok has been writing and gathering music since the sixties, when he was a major influence in the folk music revival of that time: songs and ballads, instrumentals, music from the Mongolian Kalmyks, from Australia, the British Isles, the Caribbean and around the world, from the sea and sailing, the islands and mainland, family, strangers and dreams. Master of 6- and 12-string guitar, as well as his trademark ‘cellamba, Bok has made more than a score of albums and many other musicians have recorded his songs. In addition, his music has been used in films and published in numerous folk music anthologies, including “Rise Up Singing”. He has recently published his own second songbook and continues to record, perform and promote a strong folk music tradition throughout the U.S., Canada, the British Isles, Europe and around the world.
