The soundtrack to the biopic of late Texan star Selena is an even better homage to the singer than the film itself. Incorporating rare tracks, hits, and sizzling live cuts, the album brims with Selena’s energy and charisma. Especially invigorating are “Disco Medley, Part II,” recorded during Selena’s triumphant 1995 concert at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, and the eight-minute live Cumbia Medley, which blends some of her biggest Spanish hits. “Where Did the Feeling Go?” is an early pop precursor to nuanced hits such as “I Could Fall in Love” and “Dreaming of You,” which are also included. The album also features Selena’s searing rendition of “A Boy Like That,” originally featured on a West Side Story tribute album, and “Viviras Selena,” a touching tribute featuring Tejano stars Jennifer Peña, Emilio, and Bobby Pulido. –Joey Guerra
