About the Artist

I was one of the many rabid fans following The Stone Coyotes around for the last few years – so rabid, in fact, that I became their manager.
The Stone Coyotes are a family trio – songwriter Barbara Keith on guitar and vocals, husband Doug Tibbles on drums, and son John Tibbles on bass. Because they rock and they mean it, they have become the ultimate word-of-mouth band. In your hands is their new CD, “Ride Away From the World”.
The band has quite a history. Barbara began her career at the Cafe Wha? in Greenwich Village, and was soon recording for MGM/Verve, A&M, and Warner Brothers. Her songs have been covered by Barbra Streisand, Tanya Tucker, Lowell George, Olivia Newton-John, Delaney and Bonnie, Melanie, The Dillards, Hank Snow and many others. Her husband Doug Tibbles had been a TV writer, penning scripts for such shows as “The Munsters”, “Bewitched”, “Andy Griffith”, “My Three Sons”, “Family Affair”, and “Love American Style”. Unhappy with show business in general, they gave back Barbara’s major label advance and went underground. Doug took up drums and his son John took up bass early on. Reclusive by choice, the band moved from L.A. to Western Massachusetts to write and woodshed. They began playing the occasional show while recording in their cellar. Then they hit the road.
When best selling author Elmore Leonard (“Get Shorty”, “Jackie Brown”, “Out of Sight”) walked in the Troubadour in L.A. one night looking for inspiration for his sequel to “Get Shorty”, he discovered The Stone Coyotes. They became the model for Chili Palmer’s next adventure, “Be Cool”. Leonard included their lyrics in the book and dedicated it to them. He and the band made a string of appearances together around the country. “Be Cool” is currently being developed as a major motion picture.
Of course, as their manager, I’d like to hype this with words – to say that nobody else has been able to get it this right for as long as I can recall – but instead, I’ll let the music speak for itself.
